HireAVeteran.org is a veterans job board and a set of free transition tools, run by Salute Veterans Inc., a 501(c)(3) nonprofit.
The tools are the part we are proudest of. A Skills Translator covering 9,479 military codes across every branch, including the combat arms codes that most translators return nothing for. A resume builder that starts from your military code. Interview preparation. A pay calculator that works out what a civilian salary has to be to match military pay once untaxed allowances are counted. A federal jobs search with a plain explanation of veterans’ preference and the hiring authorities most veterans have never heard of.
All of it is free, needs no account, and asks for no email address. Nothing you type into those tools is sent to us.
Our other project is VeteransDirectory.com — veteran transition resources, so that veterans transitioning out of the military find the help they have earned now, not twenty years from now.
Directories cost money to keep accurate and earn none by themselves. This board is how that one gets paid for. When an employer pays to post a job here, half of the fee goes to the veteran organization that referred them and the rest funds the work.
That is also why we can afford to give the tools away. A commercial job board has to capture the value to justify existing. We only have to cover the directory.
Salute Veterans Inc. was founded by Mike O’Meara, a Marine veteran from a three-generation Marine family, who spent more than a decade running a veteran job board before this one.
That decade is most of the reason this site exists in the shape it does. It is where the knowledge came from that the government’s occupational crosswalk leaves combat arms blank, that employers cannot read a military resume, and that a job board with no audience is worth nothing to anybody.
